Growth of 5G Smartphones are Expected to Grow More than Tenfold

You may have been enjoying 4G network connectivity on your 5000mAh battery phone like Vivo Z1 Pro, Redmi 8, Realme 5i and more.

However, if you keep a tab on trends in the smartphone world, then you may have noticed that brands are launching many upcoming 5G phones in India. And why not, India is the 2nd largest market in the world for smartphone!

Studies show 5G phones will grow tenfold

A recent Strategy Analytics report says that the number of upcoming 5G phones is pegged to grow more than tenfold. The figure is expected to touch 199 shipments across the world. Hence, the shipments of upcoming 5G phones are expected to account for 15% of all mobile phone shipments – up from 1% when compared to 2019.

You should also know that the report states that the USA, China, Japan, and Germany, along with South Korea, will lead with almost 90% of 5G mobile phone sales.

However, owing to the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19), 2020’s first-half is expected to see slower than expected shipments. The second year of 2020 should be a good bounce-back.

What’s more, Indonesia and India are two key markets that are lagging when it comes to 5G adaption rates. It is because these markets are not expected to have a mass 5G market for at least 1 year or so.

But that is not stopping mobile phone brands from launching 5G phones in India. Even before the 5G network is tested and launched, India will have many 5G phones already.

Leading smartphone company, the China-based Xiaomi has recently announced that 5G phones are way forward. It has plans to invest heavily in Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 5G of about $7 billion.
